Flying Eagles drawn in tough group for CAF U-20 Tourney

Nigeria’s U-20 men’s football team, the Flying Eagles, have been placed in a challenging group for the 2025 CAF U-20 tournament in Côte d’Ivoire later this year.

The seven-time champions will face Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco in the group stage, as revealed during the draw in Cairo, Egypt, yesterday.

The Flying Eagles are no strangers to their group opponents, having faced them in previous encounters.

Adama Coulibaly, a former Mali international who assisted in conducting the draw, commented: “There’s no doubt that Group B, with Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco, is the toughest.”

In other groups, hosts Côte d’Ivoire are drawn in Group A alongside the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Tanzania, and a team yet to be determined from the Central Africa zone, making it a five-team group.

Defending champions Senegal will compete in Group C with Zambia, Kenya, and Sierra Leone, who are making their debut in the tournament.

The top two teams from each group, along with the best two third-place finishers across all groups, will advance to the quarter-finals.

The tournament is set to take place from April 26th to May 18th.

Full Groupings:

GROUP A: Côte d’Ivoire, UNNIFAC, DR Congo, Ghana, Tanzania
