‘ Forget about 2023 Women’s World Cup ‘ – Babangida advises Super Falcons

Former Super Eagles forward Tijani Babangida has urged the Super Falcons of Nigeria to forget about the 2023 Women’s World Cup and focus on the 2024 Olympic games.

This follows Nigeria’s exit from the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup after a last-16 penalty shoot-out loss to England on Monday August 7.

The Falcons who are home-bound may be tempted to cast blames, an act Babangida is urging the team to avoid and instead look forward to an even better outing at the Paris 2024 Olympics games.

” This is not the time for the players to start picking up faults but an opportunity for them to re-asses themselves ahead of the Olympic Games qualifiers, ” Babangida said per Complete sports.

“They must forget about the 2023 Women’s World Cup and focus on how they will beat Ethiopia to qualify for the Games. Then they can think of rewriting history for Nigeria.”

On their way to the Women’s Football event of the 2024 Olympic games, Nigeria’s Super Falcons are billed to face Ethiopia in the second round of the qualifiers, scheduled to hold between October 23-31, 2023.

There are only two slots for Africa to the women’s football event at the 2024 Olympic Games which will be staged in Paris, France.

Canada who the Super Falcons faced in group B at the Women’s World Cup are current gold medalists from the Tokyo Olympic games.
