Funny Conor McGregor makes £1.5bn bid for Chelsea

Conor McGregor has entered the bidding war for Chelsea with a £1.5bn offer as other global billionaires consider a purchase.

Roman Abramovich, the Russian owner of the Blues, made a dramatic announcement earlier this week that he wanted to sell the club amid mounting economic sanctions in the UK and amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine. sports post understands that he is looking for a quick sale.

And MMA star McGregor, who had previously expressed an interest in buying Chelsea despite being a self-proclaimed Manchester United fan, made an offer on Twitter for the club worth half of the £3bn that Abramovich wanted.

In response to a news report stating that Abramovich’s price tag for Chelsea is £3bn, ‘the Notorious’ tweeted: ‘I hereby put forward my offer of £1.5bn’ on the social media site.

The news comes as Turkish businessman Muhsin Bayrak, reportedly worth £8bn, claims he is engaged in talks with Abramovich’s team over the purchase of the club, rival magnates Todd Boehly and Hansjorg Wyss.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has raised questions in the British Parliament over the possible imposition of sanctions on Abramovich, meaning he will now discharge all of his London assets before the British government can punish him.

US and Swiss tycoons Boehly and Wyss appeared to be the frontrunners to meet his £3bn asking price, but Bayrak has now claimed he will “soon fly the Turkish flag in London”.

“We are negotiating the terms of the Chelsea purchase with Roman Abramovich’s lawyers,” the businessman, whose family is one of the most important in Turkey, told the Turkish outlet. Yeni Safak.
