Former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness has lauded Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen’s choice to remain with Galatasaray, calling the Turkish champions the ideal club for him.
Galatasaray broke the Turkish transfer record by paying Napoli €75 million to sign Osimhen on a permanent deal after his brilliant loan spell.
The 26-year-old scored 26 goals in 30 league matches last season, playing a key role in the Istanbul giants’ 25th Super Lig title win.
Speaking to Futboo, Souness said Osimhen made the right call by staying at Galatasaray instead of chasing moves elsewhere.
“Some players value affection, some don’t. Victor Osimhen had a great season and was loved. If being loved is important to you and you want to feel it, Galatasaray is the right place,” Souness told Futboo.

“Osimhen is very lucky to have had this experience at such a young age. He could have done well elsewhere, but would he be this happy? The fans love him, he’s on good terms with Okan Buruk, and he knows the team. He’s positive in every way.”
The Nigerian forward’s prolific form was instrumental in Galatasaray’s domestic double last season, helping them lift both the league title and the Turkish Cup with over 30 goals across all competitions.
However, Osimhen was notably absent from Galatasaray’s matchday squad for their Turkish Super Lig opener against Gaziantep FK, with the club yet to provide an official explanation for his omission.
The striker is expected to return for Galatasaray’s second league fixture, a home clash against Fatih Karagümrük, as the club aims to defend their title and build on last season’s success.
Osimhen’s permanent switch to Turkey came after he quickly became a fan favourite during his loan spell, establishing himself as a key figure in the club’s recent triumphs.
