Gombe United Ends Remo Stars Unbeaten Run

Ibrahim Yahaya’s lone goal helped Gombe United beat Remo Stars Fc of Ikenne in the Match Day 12 of the ongoing Nigerian Professional Football League NPFL played at the Pantami stadium, Gombe today.

His goal came in the 14′ as he fired home with a thunderbolt shot from the left flank following a delicious pass by Yusuf Abdulazeez.

The Savannah Scorpions continued to pushed for more with attacks and counter attacks as the visitors’ defense were put on their knees making frantic efforts to neutralized the attacks as the scoreline remained unchanged after the first 45′

Gombe United missed pocket of goals chances in the second stanza just as Remo Stars who found their rhythm as the clash got to its climax and they came closer to equalizing in the 73′ when Andy Okpe used his height to hammer a bullet header in the box which beat goalkeeper Itodo Akor only for Rahman Olarenwaju to cleared the goal bound on the line in an empty net.

The hosts failed to increase their tally while the visitors’s efforts to equalised proved fruitless as referee Elaigwu Hannah from the FCT blew the final whistle after the expiration of the additional three minutes.

” They are good side but we have played against tougher oppositions here; the likes of Enyimba and Lobi Stars and Nigeria Tornadoes. I know their mode of operations and how they approach their matches, that’s why we went on them before they settled”.

He applauded his player for their doggedness and resilient despite the long journeys week in-week out.

“It’s not easy travelling long distance; we just came back on Friday from Heartland,we just have one day to prepare for Remo.It is not easy, i must commend the boys”.

however Remo Stars coach Gbenga Ogunbote said,” Well! That’s football for you, sometimes you got it right; sometimes you will not, unfortunately, we didn’t deserve to lose but we will take the positive from the game”.

Meanwhile, Gombe United who now occupied the 10th position on the log after twelve matches will travel to Uyo for their match day 13 fixture against Dakkada Fc on Thursday 17/2/22.
