Governor Okpebholo Hosts Team Edo After National Youth Games Success

Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele on Monday presented Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, with the trophy won by Team Edo at the concluded 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.

Enabulele who expressed appreciation to the governor for his support as he formally presented him with the trophy on behalf of the team said, “We have come to thank His Excellency, Governor Okpebholo, for giving us the opportunity to contribute to the development of sports in Edo State. We are here to present this trophy to him,” he stated.

He highlighted Team Edo’s historic performance at the Games, where the state finished third overall with a total of 79 medals — 33 gold, 18 silver, and 28 bronze. The haul marked Edo’s best-ever gold medal tally, improving on the 21 gold medals won in the previous edition and 17 in the one before.

“Significantly, Edo State fielded the youngest team in the competition, a true reflection of Governor Okpebholo’s visionary development programmes in sports,” Enabulele added.

He further commended the governor for his unwavering commitment to sports and for prioritising the welfare of athletes. “The Governor has been very supportive, consistently prioritising the welfare of athletes,” he affirmed.
