Captain of Abuja-based American football club Green Giants, Adebisi Olatilewa Adetoro, has announced the passing of his father following a prolonged struggle with the emotional and psychological effects of a traumatic abduction.

According to Adetoro, his father was abducted by armed criminals along the Abuja–Kaduna highway on May 17, 2022. He was released on May 22, 2022, but the ordeal reportedly left lasting emotional and psychological scars that continued to affect his health and wellbeing.

Reflecting on the painful loss, Adetoro said the family made every effort to ensure that his father received adequate medical attention after his release. However, the lingering effects of the incident proved overwhelming.

“This has been an extremely difficult period for me and my family. We remained hopeful and did everything within our power to support his recovery, but sadly, he never fully overcame the trauma of the experience,” he said.

Adetoro described his late father as a devoted family man whose life was defined by hard work, sacrifice and commitment to those around him. He noted that his father built a successful career in banking before transitioning into agriculture and livestock farming, where he found renewed purpose and fulfillment.

The family has commenced arrangements for his final burial rites, with details expected to be communicated in due course.

The tragic loss underscores the enduring consequences of insecurity and abduction on victims and their families, particularly along the Abuja–Kaduna corridor, which has witnessed numerous security challenges over the years.

As family, friends and associates mourn his passing, Adetoro said he hopes the incident will continue to draw attention to the need for stronger measures to safeguard citizens and prevent similar tragedies.
