Home-based Eagles Battle Togo On September 21

Nigeria’s B-squad senior national team, Home-based Eagles will battle Togo in the next round of next year’s Championship of African Nations (CHAN) qualifiers, following the Francophone West Coast neighbours’ elimination of Benin Republic.

Togo set up next month’s date with Nigeria in the race to CHAN 2020 to be hosted by Cameroon with a 1-0 win against Benin in their first-round qualifying second leg fixture at home in Lome, after having earlier held The Squirrels to a goalless away draw in the first leg.

Consequently, the Eagles, who drew bye in the first round, will travel to Lome for the first leg next month, while the reverse fixture will hold at a yet to be named venue in Nigeria between October 18th to 20th.

The home-based Eagles, who are yet to get a substantive coach that will guide them through the qualifiers, will aim to make it to Cameroon and pull off Nigeria’s best performance in the championship, where they got bronze in their maiden outing at South Africa 2014, fell in the first round at Rwanda 2016 and finished second at CHAN 2018.
