Huesca Will Help Me Get Back On Track – Nwakali

Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning captain, Kelechi Nwakali has expressed optimism that his recent move to SD Huesca of Spain on a free transfer from Arsenal of England will help him get his career back on track. While some observers would see it as a demotion for him, Nwakali recounted how he was loaned out several times by Arsenal, but believes he will now get the chance to play regular at Huesca. Nwakali spoke at length in this interview with SCORENIGERIA …
Q: First and foremost, congratulations on your new club.

A: Thank God for the moment. The reason I’m going to SD Huesca is to at least get enough playing time and get back to the track.

Q: You bagged a three-year contract with your new club SD Huesca and you have finally said goodbye to Arsenal.

A: Arsenal have been my dream team, but one thing is sure, is not late yet, the aim is to just go there and get more playing time because there is a buy-back option in the contract

Q: There was a story that you will be shipped out on loan from SD Huesca to a team in the third division.

A: Well, I kept quiet on that news because everybody was just writing what they like without even knowing the fact of the story. But the truth is that I am not going on loan to any club. After this U23 game, I am going directly to Spain, to Huesca to start the season.

Q: You just mentioned your new club, you are going to play alongside Shinji Okazaki former Leicester City player, what’s your take playing alongside a top player like Okazaki?

A: Well, the truth is that football is all about growing and I believe everyone wants to play along with top players, but like I said earlier, I just want to go here and make my mark and to get back on the track.

Q Bringing a top player like Okazaki to your club, what do you think is the plan of your club?

A: Well the aim or the plan is to get promoted back to the La Liga and it requires everyone to put in his best and to do whatever we think we can do that will make us gain promotion back to the La Liga.

Q: In retrospect, during your U20 days the Sudanese denied you the opportunity to feature in the World Cup.

A: Well, in the U20 days we lost to the Sudanese 4-3, it’s a game we wished to have won so that we could be in the U20 World Cup and it was so painful we lost that game.

Q: Thank you so much Kelechi.

A: Thank you too.

Nwakali also said in an additional report that he can still make a return to his “dream club” Arsenal even though he has now signed a three-year contract with ambitious Spanish second division club Huesca.

He told SCORENigeria that his new contract has a buy-back clause which will allow him to return to the London Gunners, who first signed him three years ago.

Nwakali declared: “Arsenal are my dream club. I have joined Huesca so as to get enough playing time and be back on track (with my career).

“And one thing is sure – it’s not over yet for me at Arsenal because there’s a buy-back option in my contract as well. At the end of the contract, it will be whether I’m going back to Arsenal or moving on from there.

“Huesca are an ambitious club who seek a return to La Liga within a short time. I am not going on loan to any club. Some people are just writing what they like, not working with facts.”
