Alex Iwobi has revealed he tried convincing Crystal Palace winger, Eberechi Eze to play for Nigeria.
Eze was born to Nigerian parents and was still eligible to represent the Super Eagles despite playing for England at youth level.
The 24-year-old turned down overtures from former President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick and erstwhile Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr to play for the Super Eagles in the past.
The former QPR player’s invitation by Three Lions of England manager, Gareth Southgate for the Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia has laid to rest speculations about his future.
Iwobi, who also represented England at youth level before switching allegiance to Nigeria, said he did his best to make Eze play for the three-time African champions.
“I spoke to Ebere Eze to try and come but then obviously he’s never had the opportunity to come but I wish him all the best with England as well,” Iwobi said on Brila FM.
