Nine –time Nigeria Premier Football League champions, Enyimba ended their seven games winless streak with a 2-1 defeat of Nasarawa United yesterday at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba in a rescheduled Matchday 17 tie.
The victory over the Solid Miners followed the 4-1 whiplash of Black Bulls of Mozambique last weekend in a CAF Confederation Cup tie played in Uyo.
Joseph Atule followed up with his brace of goals against Black Bulls of Maputo with another goal after he netted in the stoppage time of the first half to throw the stadium into celebration mood.
But Anas Yusuf levelled up for Nasarawa United in the 58th minute after he capitalised on the People’s Elephant’s sloppy defence before Brown Ideye put his team back in the driver’s seat in the 62nd minute. He came in and made immediate impact just like he did last weekend against Black Bulls when he netted a few minutes after he came on. He is really winding back the clock despite being 36 years old.
With the important win, Enyimba have moved to the seventh spot with 27 points from 17 games. They still have two games at hand over other teams except their opponents- Kwara United and Kano Pillars.
