Ideye Signs One-year-deal With Aris Of Greece

Former Super Eagles’ striker, Aide Brown Ideye has taken another bold step to ensure he ends his career on a high, following a year’s deal he has sealed with a top-flight club, Aris Thessaloniki of Greece,

After previously seeing action in France, Switzerland, Ukraine, England and China, Ideye has leveraged on his recent stint with another Greek club, Olympiakos, as he returns to The Country of Zeus a second time.

Ideye was part of the Nigerian team that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, but he has not been invited to the national team since October 2016, with his last outing dating back to the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Zambia, which the Eagles won 2-1 in Uyo.

However, the 30-year-old Ajegunle, Lagos-born star has been without a club since he left Malaga at the end of the 2017/18 season and will hope to revitalize his career at Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium, where he will also hope to better the marks he had at Olympiakos, where he hit 28 goals in 65 matches across two seasons.

He also helped Olympiakos win the 2015/16 Greek Super League title before moving to Tianjin Teda of China in February 2017, only to fall out with the club after just a season, following loss of form and shirt rivalry.

However, that is all now behind him, and Ideye will be aiming to help Aris qualify for next season’s UEFA Europa League group stage after their fifth-place finish in the 2018/19 Greek league campaign.

He will have to hit the ground running, as Aris (fondly called The Yellow and Blacks) are scheduled to play AEL of Cyprus in a qualifying fixture for the second-tier European clubs’ contest.

A report by indicates that Ideye has joined the team that are rated fouth most popular in Greece, with expectations that he will have enough respect, as someone who has played top level soccer with Nigeria’s national team and in the English Premier League.

An additional report by stated: “The former West Brom and Sochaux man inked a one-year contract with the Yellow and Blacks on Thursday, which ended a five-month search for a new club following his departure from Tianjin Teda in China.

“After Ideye’s official presentation, he had a brief conversation with manager Savvas Pantelidis before joining his new teammates in the training session.

“In his first spell in Greece with Olympiacos, the 30-year-old notched up 28 goals in 65 appearances and had 10 assists to his name.

“In terms of combined transfer fees, Ideye is the most expensive Nigerian player in history with a total fee of €43.18m which places him first ahead of Obafemi Martins (€42.35) and Ahmed Musa (€41m).”
