Ighalo: I Will Resume Running On Thursday

Shanghai Greenland Shenhua of China striker, Odion Jude Ighalo has disclosed that he will start rehabilitation running on Thursday, as he enters the final lap of his recovery from a recent injury.

The Super Eagles star has been out of action for almost two weeks, after copping a knock in Shenhua’s 1-1 draw away to Tianjin Teda in a Chinese Super League encounter on May 10th.

The 29-year-old striker, who topped the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers’ goals charts with seven goals, picked the injury in the 12th minute of the encounter at Tianjin Olympic Center Stadium.

Before bowing out, the ex-Julius Berger FC of Lagos, Prime FC of Osogbo, Lyn Oslo of Norway, Udinese of Italy, Granada of Spain, Watford of England and Changchun Yatai of China star had already scored seven goals in nine CSL games is his first five months with Shanghai Shenhua.

Ighalo, who is currently the third highest goals scorer in the CSL, behind Graziano Pelle and Eran Zahavi, was again sorely missed by Shenhua last weekend, as the team lost 3-1 home against Shandong Luneng.

However, Ighalo has now revealed that he is heading back faster than expected, as he is doing well in the gym and says he will start running on the pitch this Thursday.

Although Ighalo went on to admit there is no date yet for his full return to action with his club and, by extension the Super Eagles, who will open camp on June 2nd in Asaba, he hinted that he will back pretty soon.

“(I am) still working in the gym, for now, (but) I have progressed well with the injury and would start running on the pitch on Thursday.

“Although there is no particular date for me to return yet, I will be back very soon,” told
