Iheanacho Picks Jersey Number 14 At Leicester

Leicester City of England attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho has received yet another boost in his hope for a better season at The Foxes, as he will now don number 14 jersey with the squad this season, same as he does for the Super Eagles.

Although Iheanacho was left off the Eagles’ squad list to this year’s Africa Cup of Nations on account of poor form and lack of goals in the past season, he is back scoring in pre-season, with high hopes of getting a recall to the Nigerian national team.

His aspirations for better performances this season with Leicester have now been boosted by an emotional and symbolic victory on the back of his shirt, as he will wear number 14, instead of 8 he has used for the past two seasons at King Power Stadium.

Iheanacho, who started out with number 10 jersey for Nigeria at the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup, which the Golden Eaglets won in United Arab Emirates, and repeated such at the 2015 FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand, where the Flying Eagles fell in the second round, has been playing with 14 on his back with the Eagles since October 2016.

While Iheanacho has been handed his preferred number 14 kit, fellow-Nigerian star, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi will continue with 25, which he started wearing from his first professional club abroad, Racing Genk of Belgium and retained when he joined Leicester in 2017.

Iheanacho, who has failed to replicate the promise he showed during his days at Manchester City will now aim for better pickings, as he takes the figure donned by Portuguese defender, Ricardo Pereira last season, after Leicester’s confirmation of jersey numbers for all their players.

Leicester stated: “Kelechi Iheanacho takes the No.14 shirt he has worn regularly for Nigeria, allowing summer signing Youri Tielemans to take No.8, a number he has worn regularly for Belgium.”
