Iheanacho Rates High After Barren 10 Months

Leicester City of England attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho has been rated high, following his performance and goal in a pre-season friendly for The Foxes, which they won 3-0, some ten months after he last scored for the club.

While Iheanacho admitted he was happy to get back to scoring form at the former English Premier League champions, he ended up getting 7/10 on the players’ ratings provided by Leicester’s media unit, following his bull’s eye in The Foxes’ win against Cambridge United.

Tuesday’s goal is a breath of fresh air for Iheanacho, whose poor form and lack of goals at Leicester led to Super Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr leaving the former Manchester City star out of Nigeria’s squad to the recent Africa Cup of Nations, and the lad knows he has to battle back.

Before netting in Tuesday’s pre-season friendly, Iheanacho had not scored for the Foxes since September 22, 2018, but he showed the zeal of a hungry striker after his introduction against Cambridge, as he went on after an hour of the clash at Abbey Stadium.

Iheanacho brought his drought to an end in the 83rd minute when he nodded home Harvey Barnes in-swinger to double Leicester’s advantage, thereby putting an end to a torrid run that saw him fail to hit target after 1,061 minutes on the pitch without scoring a goal.

The 22-year-old UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup most valuable player fired blanks in a total of 30 games, comprising 24 in the English Premier League, three in the Carabao League Cup, one in the FA Cup and two in pre-season before Tuesday’s game, in which he eventually got a relief by scoring his first goal in ten months.

Iheanacho’s goal, alongside others from Harry Maguire and Hamza Choudhury, saw The Foxes maintain their 100% record this summer, which gives the squad a massive boost ahead of Saturday’s games with Stoke City and Rotherham United.

Afterwards, Leicester correspondent, Jordan Blackwell gave the Eagles’ outcast two points above average for his efforts, while also noting that the ex-Columbus Crew of America whiz-kid is fighting hard to regain lost form, with determined running and sharp reactions to the ball.

Blackwell wrote in his player ratings: “Kelechi Iheanacho: Finally scored his goal and thoroughly deserved it.

“He was alert and made good runs, while his header to convert Barnes’ cross was excellent.

“It lifted a weight off his shoulders and he went close to a second, seeing a shot cannon off the post. 7.”
