Ike Ugbo Nets During Loss In Holland, Dessers Rues Disallowed Hat-trick

It was a case of different fortunes for two Nigerian-born players in Holland, as Ike Ugbo continued his majestic goals scoring form with Roda KC Kerkrade, but Heracles Almelo striker, Cyriel Dessers was full of lamentations over his goal that was disallowed by the match officials, reports.

However, while it was lamentations all the way for Dessers for failing to get the nod for his hat-trick in a 2-0 win for his side, Ugbo returned to the scorers’ sheet in a 5-1 loss to Den Bosch at Parkstad Limburg Stadion in Kerkrade on Friday night.

Ugbo, who is on loan from Chelsea of England and has been Roda’s standout player this season, went into the game looking for his first goal after firing blanks in three straight appearances in the lower division Eerste Divisie
However, in what was his new manager, Maurice Verberne’s first game in charge as caretaker coach of the side, Roda had a difficult night and they were already three goals down after 18 minutes, before Ugbo reduced the deficit.

Ugbo made hay when he capitalized on a blunder to score nine minutes before halftime, taking his tally to 11 goals from 24 matches, but an eleventh loss of the season for Roda saw Garba Lawal’s former club slip from 17th to 18th on the Dutch second-tier division’s league table.

On the other hand, Dessers, who has 17 goals and six assists in all competitions so far this season, was angry to see his goal disallowed by referee Bjorn Kuipers during Friday night’s 2-0 win over Fortuna Sittard at Stadion Erve Asito.

The Holland-born lad, who has devoted his future allegiance to play for Nigeria at senior level, thought he had given Heracles a 3-0 lead in injury time but the goal was not given, thus denying him his second hat-trick of the season.

With 14 goals from 22 appearances, Dessers is the highest goals scorer in the Dutch top-flight at present, but he reckons it would have been an extension for his at the weekend, had his effort not been ruled out, even as stays ahead of AZ Alkmaar’s Myron Boadu, who has 13 goals.

Dessers confessed: “I wanted another one. If you can score one as a striker at the end, you can take that ball home with you. Anyway, after twenty seconds it will end, and you will be happy with the two goals and the victory. It wasn’t easy, few opportunities, but still nice to make two.”
