Ikouwem Leaves U-20 Team For Deal In Israel

Nigeria’s youth national team, Flying Eagles’ captain, Ikouwem Usdoh Utin has sensationally left the squad’s preparation camp in Germany, as he seeks to seal a dial with a club in Israel.

However, Utin’s departure is temporary, as he received consent from Coach Paul Aigbogun to embark on the trip, and is expected to return next week.

Before now, FF Malmo of Sweden were said to be putting pressure on Utin to sign the dotted lines with them this month, in order to ward off interest from other clubs.

While another Swedish club, Ostersunds FK, who recently had former Rangers International of Enugu striker, Alhaji Gero on their cards, are also reportedly eyeing Ikuowem, Malmo appeared in a better position to hook his signature in the coming month.

Malmo wanted to tie down a deal with Ikuowem before the FIFA U-20 World Cup, as they are of a view his valuation could soar once he gets a solid outing at the competition in Poland.

The Enyimba of Aba left-back is expected to be a key member of Aigbogun’s squad next month in Poland, as he has played for both the main Super Eagles and home-based side as well as for the under-23 team, Olympic Eagles.

Utin’s wealth of experience has already propelled Aigbogun’s side through tight spots, as it was at the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Niger Republic.

The team struggled on Tuesday in their first build-up friendly against the under-23 team of SC Freiburg of Germany, and he may still be absent for Sunday’s game against Saudi Arabia.

A credible source disclosed: “Utin was given permission by the coach to go for a medical with a club in Israel, but he is expected back latest this weekend.”
