The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disowned a circulating letter claiming it had taken a position on the resolution of the Samuel Anyanwu–led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) regarding the Ekiti governorship primary.
In a statement, INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi, described the document—widely shared on social media—as fake and urged the public to disregard it.
The forged correspondence had suggested that the Commission rejected the PDP faction’s resolution because it was allegedly signed by the party’s National Chairman and Secretary in line with the Electoral Act.

INEC, however, said the letter never originated from the Office of the Secretary to the Commission or any of its official channels.
“The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been drawn to a correspondence currently in circulation, dated November 10, 2025, concerning the Resolution of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) Meeting and the postponement of the Ekiti State Congress/Governorship Primary, purported to have been issued by the Secretary to the Commission.
“The Commission hereby states unequivocally that the said correspondence did not emanate from the office of the Secretary to the Commission, nor any official channel of INEC.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the signature of the Secretary to the Commission was forged by unscrupulous elements.”
INEC warned the public, political parties, and the media to ignore the document entirely, describing its circulation as a serious electoral offence and an attempt to mislead Nigerians.
The Commission also appealed to individuals involved in such “futile, criminal, and disruptive activities” to desist in the interest of electoral integrity and peace.
It added that it is working with security agencies to investigate the forgery and bring those responsible to justice.
