Insecurity: Ondo Amotekun Arrests 21 Suspected Criminals, Including Kidnappers

Date:

The Ondo State security outfit, Amotekun, has apprehended 21 individuals suspected of criminal activities, including kidnappers.

Speaking in Akure, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, the state commander of Amotekun, highlighted the evolving tactics employed by criminals to evade capture.

He noted, “We have arrested 21 suspected criminals from various local governments within the state. Despite our efforts to counteract their tactics, criminals continually adapt and develop new methods.”

Adeleye provided details on some criminal methods, including a new strategy used by thieves targeting motorcycle riders, or “Okada” operators. He explained, “We previously warned the public about Okadas with hoods covering their heads, which are often used by criminals, especially at night. We recently dismantled a syndicate involved in stealing Okadas. These criminals use guns and heavy objects to incapacitate riders before stealing their motorcycles, which are then disassembled and smuggled out of the state. We’ve apprehended the mastermind from Benin and are actively pursuing his accomplices.”

Adeleye also addressed another group specializing in burglarizing unoccupied homes. “We’ve recovered stolen items from various local governments and advise people against purchasing cheap second-hand goods, as it may implicate them as accomplices,” he warned.

Additionally, he mentioned the arrest of suspected kidnappers found near the location where a ransom was paid. “These suspects have provided us with valuable information. We’ve observed a rise in criminal activities, particularly kidnappings, in border areas such as Ose, Edo, Akoko, and Kogi.”

Adeleye assured that Amotekun is working on enhanced security measures to address these issues and provide relative peace in the affected border local governments. He concluded by stating that the 21 suspects have been thoroughly profiled and will be charged in court following a complete investigation.
