Inter Milan want Lukaku £7million loan fee dropped

Date:

Inter Milan are keen on opening negotiations with Chelsea over Romelu Lukaku’s loan deal’ after their Champions League clash with Porto.

The Belgian international has spent the season on loan with his former side after falling out of favour in Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea team.

Though he’s only contributed one goal in the Italian top-flight this season, there are hopes from the San Siro that they will be able to secure the striker for another year.

According to La Gazzetta, Inter Milan will discuss the renewal of Lukaku’s loan after their upcoming Champions League Round of 16 tie.

The Italian outfit will host Porto in their first-leg of the tie on February 22nd before travelling to Portugal for the return leg on March 14th.

The current agreement sees Inter pay £7million (€8m) in loan fees, with an additional £2.6million (€3m) in potential add-ons, but they’re hopeful Chelsea will drop the price.

The Italian outlet claim that Inter will want to ‘halve’ the current fees in the Lukaku’s deal and will use the striker’s struggling form as leverage in negotiations.

Inter are also aware of Chelsea’s desire to loan Lukaku again next season, which would help them in securing a discounted price for the striker.

Lukaku, who joined Chelsea from Inter Milan in a £97.5 million deal in 2021, has no urge to leave the Italian outfit for a second time in his career.
