It is ‘a possibility’ Arsenal don’t sign anyone this month – Arteta

Date:

Mikel Arteta has warned that Arsenal may not sign anyone this month, despite their stuttering title challenge.

The Gunners lost back-to-back Premier League games for the first time this season over the festive period, as they were downed by West Ham and Fulham.

Their poor form has been coupled with a lengthening injury list with Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Thomas Partey and Jurrien Timber all currently out, while Mohamed Elneny and Takehiro Tomiyasu are off to AFCON and the Asian Cup respectively.

The Gunners have been linked with several players this month including Ajax defender Jorrel Hato, Girona left back Miguel Gutierrez and Brentford striker Ivan Toney, with fans stressing the need for Arteta to strengthen.

However, the Spaniard insisted that while they were keen to make moves, there is a chance no one will be added.

‘We are open for the transfer market but the emphasis is on making the most of what we have,’ he told his pre-match press conference ahead of their FA Cup clash with Liverpool.

‘We will work together with the club. to see if we have any options.

‘(But) it’s a possibility (that we won’t sign anyone).’
