Iwobi Among Arsenal’s 3 Most Underrated Players

by Josh Sippie

Arsenal have so many big name players that, sometimes, other players can fall under the radar. Here are the three most underrated players at the club.

There are so many players on Arsenal that fans look forward to seeing on a matchly basis. These are the players that are known for the spectacular, the game-changing moments that secure three points, or save the three points.

Players like Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will always be on the top of the rating charts, but Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi are making up ground. Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are also never going to be misinterpreted. They are what they are and, if anything, they fall more in the category of being overrated more than under.

But as is the case with any top club, the players that fly under the radar, that help the superstars perform so well, deserve credit to, as they too often go without praise or, worse, with heavy criticism for each individual mistake. Whereas a horrid miss by Lacazette is only worthy of a second or two of scorn before we all fall back in love with him.

So now I want to take the time to highlight three guys that stand out as the most underrated players at the club – guys that don’t get credit for what they do do, and instead get unfairly hounded for the things they don’t.

We will start with No. 3.

  1. Alex Iwobi

I admit that I am oftentimes too hard on Alex Iwobi. I just expect so much out of him that I can neglect the smaller things he does well – like helping out on defense, something that continuously goes unnoticed (again, I’m guilty).

His goal contributions could go for a bit of a boost, but it’s not like he’s so far off the pace that it’s raising red flags. He’s got three goals and six assists on the year across all competitions, which puts him among the best in the team.

We’d all like to see a little more consistency, but there is still time for that. He’s been fantastic at times and, even at the worst of times, his effort is always undying. Credit where credit’s deserved!
