Arsenal of England attacker, Alex Iwobi has noted that he took a ‘good decision’ in opting to stick with The Gunners, at a point many friends told him to leave.

Iwobi said it could have been a different club he would be starring for in his professional career had he not taken a bold decision not to leave Emirates Stadium when things were not going well for him personally.

The Super Eagles star recounted that he was not having enough attention in the London club’s academy, and many of his pals felt he did not have a rosy future with the team.

Iwobi confessed that he felt the pinch at that time, and twice come close to leaving Arsenal, first at age 14 and then at 16.

He pointed out that the thought of leaving was due to concerns about his physical development and that he was not receiving a first-team contract, but admitted his decision to stay put has now paid off.

Iwobi recounted: “At the age of 14 I was almost let go because I wasn’t physically developed.

“I was kind of small, I was slow, and they always used to say I need to work on my physicality.

“At the age of 16, a lot of people were given pro deals but I was only offered a scholar and they gave me the option to leave as well.

“I was the only one that played for England at the time and didn’t get offered a pro deal, everyone thought I was too good and I should leave.

“But, I thought maybe there was a reason why they’re saying that, so I thought I’d stay and it was a good decision.”
