Iwobi Should Replace Bernard In First 11 – Carragher

Everton of England new signing, Alex Iwobi has been tipped to start playing ahead of The Toffees’ Brazilian winger, Bernard in subsequent matches this season, following the Super Eagles’ star’s performance in Friday’s 2-0 loss away to Aston Villa.

Although Everton lost in Iwobi’s first match since arriving on the EPL’s transfer deadline day from Arsenal, the Eagles’ playmaker put up quite a brilliant show that saw him hit the woodwork and almost get an assist, such that Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher is tipping him for a starting role in the next game.

Carragher said he was delighted with Iwobi’s performance against Villa, which he said was evocative of the experience the youngster gained at Arsenal, and is now rooting for him to get Marco Silva’s nod ahead of Bernard, as the season progresses.

While hailing Iwobi’s performance, the former England central defender criticized Bernard, who he said lacks physical attributes and pace that are required to make the best of playing such a key role in the EPL

The cards of both players from last season seem to support Carragher, as Iwobi got six goals and nine assists for Arsenal, while Bernard had only two goals and four assists in all competitions with Everton.

On Friday, Iwobi was again the stand out player between both, as the Eagles’ star was the one that orchestrated Everton’s good moves, after getting off the bench, and was unlucky not to score on his debut when he hit the woodwork with a left-footed strike.

Carragher said: ”Hopefully for them Iwobi comes in on that side and adds more goals than Bernard does. In Bernard when I watch him play he’s not powerful enough or quick enough. He’s neat and tidy at different times, you think Iwobi will come in there.”
