Iworima Celebrates ‘Positive’ Birthday Swimming

Nigerian ex-international athlete, Otonye Iworima on Saturday spent what she tagged a positive birthday swimming, as she took time out to relax in a serene part of the countryside, with a boat ride over a lake.

The former triple jump heroine, born 13 April 1976, who placed second in her event at 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia and third at the African Championship of same year in Mauritius, said getting closer to nature was her way of saying thank you to God.

The University of Port Harcourt graduate hinted in a post on social media that she is still keeping her body fit and positive, several years after retiring from active athletics, during which she also placed 11th in long jump at the 2008 African Championship in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Other high-points of her remarkable career in field events saw her win a bronze medal with 13.83m at the 2007 All Africa Games in Algeria, as well as sixth in triple jump at the African Championship in Ethiopia.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Female Athlete of the Year 2006 also won bronze at the 2010 African Championship in Nairobi, Kenya (13.65m), ninth at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India (13.21m) and bronze at the 2011 Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique (with 13.53m), all of which she says make her a blessed warrior princess.

Iworima declared: “Grateful to God for adding another youthful year to life. Happy Birthday to me!

“#blessed #fitness #warriorprincess #beachbody #swimming #melanin #bodypositive.”
