Joe Aribo returns to Rangers following AFCON disappointment

Date:

The 25-year-old has handed the Gers a massive boost following Nigeria’s exit in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon

Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo has returned to his club Rangers after Nigeria crashed out of the ongoing 2021 AFCON.

Aribo was one of Nigeria’s best players in the competition, playing in all but one of the games the team played in Cameroon.

However, while he had hopes of going all the way with the Super Eagles, Aribo could not help the three-time AFCON champions avoid a 1-0 loss to Tunisia in the Round of 16.

It was a disappointing and shocking result as the Super Eagles were one of the favourites for the trophy after winning all of their group games.

Nonetheless, the team’s exit is a boost for Rangers, who welcomed Aribo back to training on Friday. The former Charlton man has been the Gers best player this season, and his return will only help Rangers in their mission to retain the Scottish Premiership title.

Aribo missed the clash against Livingston on Wednesday, but he could return against Ross County on Saturday ahead of the big match against Old Firm rivals Celtic on Wednesday.

The Nigerian international has scored six goals and registered four assists in 20 league games for Rangers this season.
