Nigerian-born world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Olaseni Oluwafemi Joshua has appeared with a swollen eye, less than a week to his much-expected title fight against Andy Ruiz Jr of Mexico.
‘AJ’ is heading for his debut in United States of America against Ruiz this Saturday, at Madison Square Garden, New York, but worries have been enacted by the swelling on his face, which experts tagged a black eye.
However, Joshua says he got the disfigured face through his physio, rather than from one of his sparring partners, in preparation for Saturday’s USA bout in The Big Apple.
Joshua, who has been training in Miami, USA in recent weeks, will make his American debut against the late replacement for America’s Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller, but the Brits’ face was visibly bruised around his left eye ahead of Saturday night’s showdown with Ruiz.
Rather than raise alarm, though, the WBO, WBA, and IBF champ denied that it is a battle scars from punishing barrages through training sessions in the ring.
Daily Mail quotes Joshua to have told Seconds Out: “That was just physio stuff really.
“No-one really does that to me in sparring and stuff like that. So that was just more physio stuff – like rehabilitation, recovery.”
