JUST IN: Tinubu directs NEMA to aid flood victims in Maiduguri

Date:

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide urgent assistance to those affected by the severe flooding in Maiduguri, Borno State’s capital.

Described as the worst flood in recent decades, the disaster has displaced thousands and impacted critical facilities, including the Post Office and Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. The flooding was caused by the overflow of the Alau Dam.

In a statement released on Tuesday by his special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed his profound concern over the crisis. He extended his condolences to the government and people of Borno State, particularly to families who have lost their livelihoods.

The President has called for the immediate evacuation of people from the affected areas and assured Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of federal support to address the urgent humanitarian needs.

As authorities continue to assess the damage, President Tinubu committed to mobilizing federal resources to support Borno State during this challenging period.
