President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated the temporary use of the 37.9km Bodo–Bonny Road, marking a major step toward ending decades of difficult travel for residents of Bonny Kingdom and Ogoni communities who relied on river transport and costly helicopter services.
The multi-billion-naira project, first awarded on December 11, 2014, but later abandoned, was revived on October 20, 2017, and executed by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc. The road, now 90.98 per cent complete, was opened yesterday as part of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Represented by the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, the President described the road as a flagship achievement of his administration and a critical link for Rivers State. He directed the state government to allocate 20 plots of land each at the Bodo and Bonny ends for the construction of trailer parks, warning that indiscriminate parking by trucks would not be tolerated.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Senator Barinada Mpigi, hailed Tinubu for his commitment to Ogoni communities and pledged continued support for ongoing infrastructure efforts.
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, represented by Secretary to the State Government Dr. Benibo Anabraba, thanked the President for reviving the long-abandoned project and called for more federal intervention. “This is the temporary opening of the Bonny–Bodo Road, but it is permanent joy for our people,” he said.
Julius Berger’s Project Manager, Tim Nippert, said 35km of the dual carriageway is fully motorable, adding that the remaining work will be completed in the first quarter of 2026
