Nigeria’s Kamaru Usman is delighted to be voted as UFC fighter of the year for 2021.
The Nigerian Nightmare was unbeaten in 2021 and stretched his record to 15-0, just one win short of tying Anderson Silva’s record for the most successful start to a career in history of the sport.
The 34-year-old successful defended his welterweight title by crushing former teammate in Gilbert Burns, before beating rivals Cobby Covington and Jorge Masvidal.
“More than grateful to be recognized for years of hardwork. Bigger things coming next year ” Kamaru Usman wrote on his Instagram page, shortly after the announcement was made.
Kamaru garnered 107 points to finish on top of the poll and was followed by Charles Oliveira who had 87 points. Ciryl Gane is third with 53 points, while Juliana Pena and Rose Namajuna completed the top 5 with 50 and 17 points respectively.
