England Captain Harry Kane thrashed another of Thiery Henry record Saturday despite Tottenham defeat by Arsenal.
Kane was on the scoresheet once more for Tottenham Hotspur as they did battle with Arsenal in the North London Derby breaking scoring record in the process.
He was on hand to convert from the penalty spot after Thomas Partey had given the Gunners the lead at the Emirates Stadium with an exquisite strike. It was not to be for Spurs though as further goals from Gabriel Jesus and Granit Xhaka sealed victory for the hosts.
Yet despite defeat, Kane’s strike from the penalty spot saw him chalk up yet another milestone. He was already the outright highest scorer in North London derbies his most recent strike representing his 14th in the fixture throughout his career.
That strike also saw him become the highest-ever goalscorer in London derbies having snatched the crown from Arsenal hero Thierry Henry in the process.
Kane now has 44 goals against teams based in London with the Frenchman only just behind on 43. Meanwhile, former Spurs striker Teddy Sheringham sits in third place in the standings with 32 strikes in London derbies throughout his career.
Kane’s recent milestone is not actually the first time that he has surpassed Henry with his goalscoring feats. He moved above the two-time Premier League winner in the all-time goalscoring charts back in March with a brace against Everton.
Following that achievement, he hailed Henry but reaffirmed his commitment to continue chasing down Alan Shearer’s record.
“Thierry was one of the greatest strikers we have seen, so nice to go above him in the scorers list and hopefully they keep coming,” he said to Sky Sports. “I feel like I’ve got plenty of years left in me, hopefully I can keep ticking off those names and helping the team with my goals.”
