Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has demanded clear answers from military authorities following the withdrawal of troops from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, shortly before armed men abducted dozens of students in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.
Idris, who hosted Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero on a solidarity visit on Thursday, said he was “deeply troubled” that soldiers left the school despite earlier intelligence alerts issued by the state.
According to him, the troops reportedly pulled out around 3am, barely 45 minutes before the attackers struck.

“We provided intelligence reports. We alerted them. So, who gave the order for troops to withdraw at that critical hour?” the governor asked, insisting on a full military investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He added that the withdrawal contradicted earlier assurances of strengthened security around schools in border communities that have suffered repeated bandit attacks.
Ajaero commiserated with the state and families of the abducted schoolgirls, urging federal security agencies to intensify efforts to ensure their safe return.
The abduction has triggered widespread outrage and again highlighted the persistent attacks on schools across Nigeria’s North-West, despite repeated government pledges to secure learning environments.
