Keita Will Face Nigeria, Others At AFCON 2019 – Guinea

Nigerian soccer fans should not celebrate the possibility of Liverpool midfielder, Naby Keita missing action against the Super Eagles in Group B of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, as his country’s football association president insists the lad will be fit for the championship next month.

In contrast with a declaration by Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp that Keita is likely to miss AFCON 2019, due to an injury the lad copped in the UEFA Champions League first leg semi-final 3-0 loss away to Barcelona, Guinea Football Federation (GFF) president, Antonio Souaré says the lad will be in Le Syli Nationale’s squad.

Nigeria face Guinea in their second group game on June 26 in Alexandria, Egypt, with that fixture rated very decisive, considering that their other two first round foes – Burundi and Madagascar – are both debutantes.

With Keita now one of Guinea’s most promising players of the current generation, Syli Nationale will need his presence direly in Egypt, such that Souaré has now slammed Klopp for writing off the youngster.

Souaré opined that Klopp was hasty in revealing that Keita faces two months on the sidelines, following the adductor injury he sustained in the loss to Barca on Wednesday.

The Guinea FA boss insists it is too soon to draw a negative conclusion on the player and stressed that it is not Klopp’s duty to talk about the chances of Keita going to the Nations Cup of not.

Souaré said: ”First of all we wish Naby a very good and quick recovery. As far as I know, the adductor injury cannot prevent him from playing the CAN 2019 for Guinea.

”The adductors is 2-3 weeks of unavailability. The Liverpool coach has to pull himself together, let the doctors do their job.

”Naby Keita belongs to a country before belonging to Liverpool. I remind the Liverpool coaches a bit of the rules if he does not know.

”So, it’s hasty and pretentious to make statements like this. What we know is that Naby Keita will play the CAN 2019.”
