Klopp Hails Liverpool Players For UCL History

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has thanked his players for helping him make history with the club, following their 2-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Champions League final.

Klopp was speaking in the wake of Saturday’s game, in which goals by Mohammed Salah and Divock Origi, either side of half time, at the beginning and towards the end at Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, Spain made a difference for The Reds.

Salah, who wept uncontrollably, when he was injured early in a defeat by Real Madrid at this same stage last year, set Liverpool on their way with a penalty after two minutes when Moussa Sissoko handled the ball.

In a final that rarely touched the heights of the blockbuster semi-finals that made this an all-England tie, Spurs had chances from Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Christian Eriksen, but they were all well denied by Reds’ keeper, Alisson.

Their failure to capitalise was punished when substitute Origi ensured that Klopp won his first trophy as Liverpool manager by driving low and powerfully past Hugo Lloris with three minutes left.

Klopp then declared Liverpool’s victory as the best night of his coaching career, as the German gaffer eventually broke a jinx of him falling short in major finals, including three with The Reds.

Klopp told BT Sport: “It is the best night of our professional lives. Did you ever see a team like, this, fighting with no fuel in the tank?

“A big challenge to deal with three weeks off, you never have that. To keep rhythm, or get the rhythm back, and for two English teams it was warm. It was a fight.

“The boys showed resilience and Alisson had to make a few saves, he was sensational, unbeatable. That helped us, as well as scoring.”
