Nigeria’s rising table tennis star, Matthew Kuti, has been selected by the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation to make his debut at the 2025 African Cup, set to take place from February 25 to 27 in Tunisia.
Kuti, known for his impressive performances, will compete alongside a talented lineup that includes top players like Quadri Aruna, Omar Assar, and Dina Meshref.
Since his senior debut at the 2023 African Games in Accra, Ghana, Kuti has become a key player for the Nigerian men’s national team. He played a crucial role in the 2024 and 2025 African Championships in Tunis and Addis Ababa, where he helped secure a silver medal with the team.
A fan favorite for his humble demeanor, Kuti will head to Tunis to face both experienced and up-and-coming players in Africa, competing for one of the four available spots in the men’s singles event. He will be part of the Nigerian squad, guided by legendary coaches Segun Toriola and Dotun Omoniyi.
Kuti has won four of the five major tournaments in Nigeria and has been the most consistent player in the country.
The Lagos State-born athlete recently added the Molade Okoya-Thomas Cup men’s singles title to his collection and will now compete against some of Africa’s finest stars in the Tunisian capital, aiming to secure a spot for the 2025 ITTF World Cup in Macao, China, in April.
The semifinalists in the men’s and women’s singles will secure their spots for the event in Macao, China, in April this year.
