Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been handed their route in the African qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games following Wednesday’s draw at the CAF headquarters in Cairo.
The reigning WAFCON champions and Africa’s top-ranked side received a bye into the second round and will not be in action until October 2026. They are scheduled to face the winner of the first-round tie between Sudan and Comoros, billed for June 1–9, 2026.
Nigeria’s second-round fixtures will hold from October 5–13, 2026, on a home-and-away basis. The qualification campaign, featuring 35 teams across five knockout rounds, will produce only two African representatives for the women’s football event at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, slated for July 11–29.
The qualification campaign carries added significance for the Falcons, who missed three consecutive Olympics between 2012 and 2020 before returning at Paris 2024 — where they exited in the group stage. Nigeria first appeared at the Games in 2000 and reached their best finish at Athens 2004, making the quarter-finals — still the finest performance by an African women’s team in Olympic football.
