Ladoja accepts beaded crown, vows I will become Olubadan

Date:

High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, former governor of Oyo State and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, has stated that nothing will prevent him from becoming the Olubadan of Ibadanland by God’s grace.

Ladoja made this assertion on Sunday, August 4, during a live radio interview on Fresh FM’s “Agbami Oselu.”

He confirmed his willingness to accept and wear the beaded crown, a new requirement for ascending the throne, saying, “I will receive the crown if that is what is necessary for me to become the Olubadan of Ibadanland.”

As the next in line for the throne, Ladoja has previously contested the Olubadan reform initiated by the late former governor Abiola Ajimobi and continued by his successor, ‘Seyi Makinde, whom he also criticized for advancing the reform.

Despite the hurdles, Ladoja emphasized his belief that no obstacle could thwart his ascension if it is God’s will. He added that he would adhere to the wishes of the Ibadan people.

“By the grace of God, I will become Olubadan. God has been merciful to me, and my health has been stable. Whoever God has destined to become Olubadan will achieve it despite any obstacles,” he said.

Ladoja reflected on the history of the Olubadan succession process, asserting that it should be managed by the Olubadan and not the governor. He also noted that many individuals have held titles such as Balogun or Otun Olubadan without becoming Olubadan, and reiterated his commitment to fulfilling the wishes of the Ibadan people.
