Lagos agog as LSFA girl child initiative takes center stage

The city of Lagos is agog as the Lagos state Female Football Development Committee organises a one -day training/mentorship program for the girl child.

The program which holds this weekend, Saturday July 10 at the magnificent Mobolaji Arena, formerly known as Onikan stadium, is scheduled to begin from 9am to 5pm and it promises a lot of fanfare and interesting packages organisers have said.

At a press conference held at their Ogunlana drive office yesterday, Chairperson of the committee, Raliat Abdulsalam, said the program is targeted at developing the total well being of the girl child, not just only in football but in financial literacy, training/mentorship amongst others.

According to her, “football is not the only aspect or area available, there is coaching, refereeing, physiotherapist, sports law, sports management, sports journalism to see if some of them will go into other areas as a profession.

“The idea is to catch these children young, which there will be a lot of professionals and some of our top stars available to address and mentor them.

Abdulsalam while speaking further stated that “a lot of us own female football academies and have been involved in activities and programs that helps to address the problems of gender inequality, plus other challenges faced by the girl child, which is why LSFA appointed us.

“This is the first of its kind in Nigeria and we are very passionate about this she noted.

“We expect female footballers, coaches, referees, club owners, administrators, parents, all lovers and enthusiasts of female football”, she concluded.

The elegant club owner also used the opportunity to thank the Hajj Laimeed Gafar led LSFA board for their insight and commitment to ensure the continued development of female football in the state.

Some of their partners like Lotus bank, Alert group, Referees association were represented at the event.

The one -day program adopted the theme “it’s time for the girls” and it’s sponsored by Top sport management, Alert group amongst others.
