Lagos, Ogun, Oyo pick final tickets in BetKing Wheelchair Basketball League in Abuja

After three days of superlative Wheelchair Basketball performances in Abuja, Team Lagos, Team Ogun and Team Oyo have picked the tickets to play in the grand finale of the 2024 Betking sponsored National League.

The grand finale according to the president, Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation, Mr. Seyi Johnson, will be played at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja from May 19 to 22.

In the 2024 BetKing Wheelchair Basketball National League Atlantic Conference preliminaries stage which ended on Friday, six teams participated. They are Team Abia, Team Delta, Team Imo, Team Lagos, Team Ogun and Team Oyo.

The Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation president, Seyi Johnson, said in Asaba, Delta State at the weekend that the Atlantic Conference lived up to expectations with the performances of the teams.

Johnson, stressed that, the excellent outing of all the teams clearly demonstrated that, Nigeria players are good enough to fit into various clubs in European and international Wheelchair Basketball Leagues across the world.

He said: “You can see the amazement in the spectators because most of them have not seen physically challenged individuals played basketball before. One thing I am taking back home after the Atlantic Conference League is that there is ability in disability. After watching the teams played during the league, some prominent officials in the Delta State Sports Commission said their interest has increased in followership of topclass competive Wheelchair Basketball.

“The Atlantic Conference of the Betking Wheelchair Basketball National League 2024 brought explosive experiences.And i am proud of all the teams that gave us world class performances at the league venue.

“For Team Ogun to beat Team Delta by two points, was a marked improvement in Wheelchair Basketball in a competition setting showed a massive improvement in the game.

Johnson promised to build on the successes recorded at the ongoing Wheelchair Basketball League and make it more marketable for Nigerians.

He said: “I try my best to take wheelchair basketball from where it is to an enviable level among the comity of Para Sports in Nigeria and indeed in Africa.”
Adding that: “This is the first league in Nigeria for any para sports; we are building awareness throughout the country.”

The Wheelchair Basketball president disclosed that Wheelchair Basketball League took place at Savannah Conference in the city of Kano in April.

Seyi Johnson stated that, “after the final of the Betking Wheelchair Basketball National League in Abuja, our destination will be Edo state for the President’s Cup.”

For the President’s Cup, Team Kano, Team Kwara, Team Lagos, Team Ogun and Team Oyo will slug it out to conclude the competitions in the 2024 Betking sponsored Wheelchair Basketball National League which climaxed in Abuja.
