Youri Djorkaeff has revealed Barcelona had plans to put together their own Galacticos team.
Djorkaeff had an illustrious career as he played in France, England, Germany, and Italy, while also being part of the France team that lifted the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
“Barcelona even hoped to team me up with Ronaldo and [Zinedine] Zidane,” Djorkaeff revealed in an interview with L’Equipe.
“However, [Johan] Cruyff was honest. He called me to tell me that I might not be able to make it to the Barcelona bench anymore.
“That’s what happened. Then I went to Inter. [Joan] Gaspart told my father that you couldn’t turn down Barcelona unless you were a madman or a god…. I’ll let you imagine what my father replied.”
Djorkaeff was in talks to sign for Barcelona, but it never materialised. And the Frenchman has no regrets about it.
“I have no regrets. But I could have signed for Barcelona after PSG,” he added.
“My father and my brother, who represented me, saw Gaspart several times. And my dream was to work with Cruyff. They both wanted to take me.”
