Ligue 1: Mbappe insists that he’s ‘very happy’ at PSG

Date:

Kylian Mbappe has insisted that he is ‘very happy’ at Paris Saint-Germain despite continued speculation over his future.

The striker dismissed suggestions that his future at the club is linked to PSG’s progress in the Champions League.

As reported by Marca, Mbappe said: ‘For me it’s a privilege to play here. I’m from Paris and being at PSG is special. I arrived when I was young and I’ve grown and matured a lot, on and off the pitch, since then.

‘I don’t think so. If I linked my future to the Champions League, and I don’t want to disrespect the club, I would have gone very far! I am here and I am very happy, and for the moment I’m not thinking about anything other than making PSG happy.’

Mbappe became PSG’s all-time top scorer on Saturday when he found the net late on in the victory against Nantes.

By scoring his 201st goal for the club Mbappe overtook Edinson Cavani’s tally.

Mbappe revealed that he hopes that he has saved his next three goals for the second leg of PSG’s Champions League last-16 clash against Bayern Munich.

PSG go into the game trailing 1-0 from the first leg, but Mbappe stressed that it is important that his team have the belief that they will prevail.

He said: ‘Have I saved goals 202, 203 and 204 for Wednesday? Yes, I hope so! We travel with the intention of winning and qualifying. We must go with the determination and confidence that we will progress through to the quarters.’

PSG went out to Real Madrid at the last-16 stage last season and prior to that were beaten in the semi-finals in 2021 and the final in 2020.

Mbappe is determined to win Europe’s elite club competition, but there is much work for PSG to do if they are to reach the last eight.

Real Madrid have frequently been linked with a move for Mbappe, and there have been suggestions this season that he has a difficult relationship with team-mate Neymar.

However, Mbappe will be determined to finish the season strongly as he looks to help PSG end their wait for Champions League glory.
