Lionel Messi gives only reason he’s still playing for Argentina

Date:

Argentina icon, Lionel Messi has given just one reason he is still playing for the country’s national team.

According to the 35-year-old, he is still a member of the men’s senior national team simply because they won the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.

La Albiceleste won the World Cup for the third time in their history with Messi absolutely dominating the tournament.

Messi also won the World Cup Golden Ball for the second time for his exploits and finished the tournament with seven goals and three assists.

Speaking after Argentina defeated Australia 2-0 in a friendly game on Thursday, with Messi and German Pezzella getting on the scoresheet, the 35-year-old said he would not be in the Argentine side anymore had they not won the World Cup in 2022.

He said, as quoted by All About Argentina, “To be honest, if we hadn’t been the World Champions… I wouldn’t be in the national team anymore.”
