Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz has admitted that the Reds’ 1-1 draw with relegation-threatened Burnley at Anfield felt like a loss after Arne Slot’s side dropped points for the fourth consecutive Premier League match.

Although the champions remain unbeaten in their last 12 games across all competitions, concerns are growing over their inability to convert dominance into victories.

Wirtz gave Liverpool the lead on Saturday after Dominik Szoboszlai missed an early penalty, but Marcus Edwards equalised in the 65th minute with Burnley’s only shot on target of the match.

The hosts were wasteful in front of goal, firing 32 shots, 11 of them on target, but failing to turn sustained pressure into a winning margin.

Wirtz, who has begun to find rhythm after a slow start to life at Anfield, described the outcome as deeply frustrating.

“It feels like a defeat,” the Germany international said. “When you have that many shots and chances, you have to score more goals. Some days, you try everything and it just doesn’t go in. We take one point and move on to the next game to do better.”

Manager Arne Slot also lamented his side’s blunt edge, insisting Liverpool had done enough to claim all three points despite conceding from one of the few chances they allowed.

“We should have won this game,” Slot told the BBC. “In terms of chance creation, there wasn’t much more I could ask for.”

The result leaves Liverpool fourth on the Premier League table, seven points adrift of third-placed Aston Villa and one point ahead of Manchester United in fifth.
