Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez has fumed at Elon Musk on Twitter after the Algerian was stripped of his blue tick.
The American billionaire purchased Twitter last week for an eye-watering $44billion so he could reimplement ‘free speech’ on the platform. But, just days later the Algerian lost his blue tick, and Mahrez tweeted, with three laughing emojis: “Bro @elonmusk give me my blue tick back!”
Blue ticks are handed out on Twitter to ‘notable’ accounts, and as a professional football, Mahrez qualifies for one. With the blue tick, it’s easy for football fans to find out which is Mahrez’s real account.
One fan tweeted: “I can’t be the only one that checked to see if he was the real Mahrez?”
“‘bro’ he doesn’t know you g,” a second joked. While a third added: “After all those certified baller Tweets. This proves he ain’t a verified baller man. Even Elon Musk knows that!”
And one fake Elon Musk account joked: “Win a UEFA Champions League and I’ll consider it.”
