Mbaoma, Izuogu Goals Give Enyimba Victory Over Shooting Stars

Enyimba international of Aba, on Sunday took all three points at stake in Ibadan, as they defeated Shooting Stars of Ibadan 2-1in an NPFL clash, at the Lekan Salami stadium, Ibadan.

A 56th minute spot kick calmly converted by Enyimba’s prolific forward, Mbaoma and a 95th minute screamer by Chibueze Izuogu was enough to give Enyimba maximum points against hard fighting Shooting Stars at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba

With the victory, the nine times champions with a game in hand have now moved to the third position on the Nigeria Premier Football League log, three points adrift of second place team, Remo Stars and four points adrift of Lobi Stars who sits on top of the log.

After the match, the Aba Elephants posted on its X( formerly Twitter) handle describing the game as ‘feisty’ tie.

20 years old Chijioke Mbaoma, one of the team’s important player and current top scorer of the team stated after the match that their objective this season is still for them to retain the league they won last season and even with this victory, they won’t get distracted from their objective.

In his words, he said “It was an important victory for us. We came here with the objective of winning the game and we took the fight to them from the blast of the whistle and in the 56th minute, we deservedly got our chance through the spot kick and I managed to convert the chance and we immediately knew we can go for the maximum points. Even after conceding late in the game, we still threw all at Shooting Stars and we were rewarded in the last minute of the game. We are not going to get distracted, we have to build on this momentum and do our best to remain resolute till the end of the season.” Dconcluded the former Heartland striker.

Shooting Stars got an equalizer in the 84th minute through Kareem Adepoju only to concede a late goal courtesy of a screamer from the boots of Izuogu that finally sank the Oluyole Warlords.
