Messi’s agent clears air on Argentina captain joining new club from PSG

Date:

Argentina captain Lionel Messi’s agent, Marcelo Mendez, has played down speculation his client is on the verge of joining Inter Miami when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires next summer.

Reports had emerged that Messi, who inspired Argentina to beat Mexico 2-0 in a World Cup tie last weekend, would leave PSG on a free transfer.

Reacting to the speculation, Mendez branded the rumours ‘fake news’.

“It’s false,” Mendez told CNN when asked about the reports. “It’s fake news.

“There is no negotiation for Lionel to join Inter Miami next season.”

Despite Mendez’s denial, Inter Miami remain one of the favourites to sign Messi, who already owns a house in the city and has holidayed there on different occasions with his family.
