Mohamed Salah rated Arsenal as true contenders for Premier League title

Arsenal are true contenders for the Premier League this season, according to Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.

Manchester City have won four of the past five Premier League titles, with Liverpool claiming the other in an era of dominance for the two sides. City or Liverpool have been the top two sides in four of the past five seasons, with the other members of the so-called Big Six, Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal, some way behind.

But Arsenal have made a brilliant start to the 2022/23 season, winning all three of their matches, against Crystal Palace, Leicester City and Bournemouth, to serve notice to their rivals. Mikel Arteta’s side are currently top of the table, with new arrivals Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, as well as William Saliba, strengthening the team.

The Gunners have finished outside the top four for the past six seasons and haven’t won the Premier League since the famous Invincibles campaign of 2003/04. But Salah named them among Liverpool’s competitors for the trophy this campaign.

“City, Chelsea, Arsenal are doing good,” Salah told Sky Sports when asked who would be in the mix. “Of course, I didn’t mention Liverpool because I always put us there. We want to win the Premier League. These three, with us, I think are going to be the competition.”
