Morocco beat Brazil in Tangier

Date:

The Atlas Lions of Morocco proved that their 2022 World Cup performance was not a fluke as they defeated 5-time World Champions Selecao of Brazil 2-1 in an international friendly played in Tangier.

Expectedly, Brazil controlled the game in the first half and had a goal in the 26th minute after a mistake from the goalkeeper Yacine Bounou but it was ruled offside.

Bilal EL Khannous put the host ahead in the 29th minute and Chelsea forward Hakim Ziyech has the opportunity to increase the lead before the half time but missed it.

Brazil came back in the second half stronger and better but the brilliance of Bounou continued to deny them until the 67th minute when Casemiro finally equalised.

Abdelhamid Sabiri restored the Moroccan lead in the 79th minute after a beautiful one-on-one play with Chediri as they ran away with a 2-1 win.

It’s Morocco’s first win against Brazil after suffering defeat twice in 1997 and 1998.
