Moses Simon is relieved after Nantes secured French topflight league status for another season and let the fans with a message on Sunday.

Nantes waited until the last day of the season to confirm their place in next season’s Ligue 1 campaign, after a turbulent season.

Nantes went into the final game of the campaign against bottom placed Angers two points adrift Auxerre, and they needed to win and hope that their relegation rivals drop points against Lens to stand a chance of survival.

After 90 minutes, Lens beat Auxerre 3-1, while Nantes got the job done, beating Angers 1-0 at Stade de la Beaujoire.

The result ensured that Nantes, the French Cup finalists, survived relegation.​

He tweeted: “This season has been marked by moment of hope and doubt. We fought until the last say, close to relegation.”

“But we thank the fan for their support. We fought until the end. It reminds us we are proud to wear the shirt.”

Simon ended the campaign with five goals and four assists in 34 appearances.
