Delivers progress report to the President, as assignment to revamp Nigerian sports continues
The leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC), under the chairmanship of Mallam Shehu Dikko, and Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, have presented a progress report to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on the state of the sports sector.
The report was presented by the NSC’s dynamic duo during a meeting with His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, at the Presidential Villa on Thursday.
Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko expressed gratitude to the President for the trust placed on him and the DG, promising to justify the confidence reposed by the President and Nigerians, on the NSC’s new leadership.
“As the father of the nation, I want to thank you once again for choosing me and my brother, the DG, Bukola Olopade, for this all-important assignment. I see it as a massive opportunity to help propagate the Renewed Hope agenda through sports,” Dikko said.
“I want to assure you once again that we are very focused and determined not to disappoint you, sir, because we know how much you are passionate about the growth of this country across all sectors.
“We have already started work, and the response we are getting from stakeholders and the private sector has been very encouraging. We have no doubt that your Renewed Hope agenda will surely be fulfilled in the sports sector,” Dikko added.
Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade echoed the Chairman’s remarks, thanking the President for his support to sports and pledging to deliver on their responsibilities.
“As our father, I want to specially thank you, sir, for all you are doing and for being a sports-loving father to the country. On our part, we promise not to fail you and the country,” Olopade stated.
“You have shown us that you have a special place for sports in your heart, and we are determined to be part of the legacies you want to leave behind in the annals of Nigerian sports.
“You are very determined to see that Nigerian sports has a sustainable economic outlook, and we will not disappoint you in ensuring that this becomes a reality,” he concluded.
The meeting also had in attendance the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroot Sports Development, Chief Adegboye Adeyinka, who assured to use his office to galvanise Sports Development from the Grassroot.
The meeting reaffirmed President Tinubu’s commitment to revitalizing Nigeria’s sports sector by fostering growth, sustainability, and private-sector collaboration.
The new leadership of the NSC pledged to maintain this momentum to ensure Nigerian sports sector becomes an important player in the nation’s economy.
